Your daily Kundalini yoga practice

"Sadhana"

Committing to a home practice in Kundalini Yoga involves dedicating 40 consecutive days to it. By doing so, you may notice changes in your mindset and life. If you’re ready to create a positive change, consider committing to a Sadhana practice.

Definition

'A daily spiritual practice'

To cultivate your Sadhana, you commit to practicing the same kriya everyday for 40 days in a row. This means that if you miss one day, you begin again at day 0. This is the ultimate devotion to your daily Kundalini practice, building personal integrity and discipline, and transform your energetic state.

Why practice for 40 days?

Habit building

40 days is believed to be the amount of time it takes to develop a new habit. You are also breaking any negative habits that block you from the expansion that is possible through the kriya.

Daily discipline

A mental discipline to commit to showing up everyday- even on days when you don’t feel like it. Showing up daily is not easy. You will encounter mental blocks that gives you all the reasons to not show up to your practice.  Committing to your Sadhana will give you the tools to dealing with mentally challenging situation.

Work through Blocks

The sadhana journey gives you the transformation effects on any mental, emotional and physical blocks you may be holding onto. You will be breaking free from your limiting beliefs and energetic blocks stored from past experiences. You might notice these negative beliefs and emotions creeping up more in your 2nd or 3rd week of the sadhana.

Integration in your subtle body

It is believed that it takes 40 days to really internalise the effects of the kriya and allow it to integrate into the energetic body. You are creating lasting changes to the energetic system by repeating the same practice daily for 40 days.

Tips for starting your Sadhana

Choose a kriya that works for you

Find a kriya that you really enjoy and know that you can look forward to daily. Make sure it's something you can commit to, energy and time-wise. Find a topic that speaks to you the most at this point in your life. Try out different kriyas before committing to one for 40 days.

Be flexible

Be flexible with the time you practice. If you can, it is recommended to practice the same time every day (in the morning) to get it out done before you start the day. If this doesn't work for you, don't worry - as long as you show up on your mat daily, it doesn't matter when you do it.

Have a sacred space

Have a space prepared where you go back to daily to practice. This will help you to associate being there with practicing, and allowing you to fully tune into your practice when you are in this space.

Keep a journal

Each day you will experience something different in the kriya, even though it's the same kriya. Keep a journal to log your emotions, blockages, mindset outlooks and how you feel approaching and during the practice.

Embrace the full experience

Showing up daily means that some practice will be good, and others will be more challenging - physically or mentally. Be prepared that not all practice will be wonderful, and that is okay! The 40 days sadhana is meant to be a challenge. Allow all emotions to come up as you go through this journey.

Be compassionate to yourself

If you miss a day, don't beat yourself up. Know that you always have the opportunity to begin again. Enjoy this process of transformation and remember that you are doing something great for yourself and your life!
